A divorce is an ordeal for anyone to endure, but that doesn't mean there isn't a light at the end of the tunnel. By keeping a few principles in mind, you can get through this difficult time with a healthy spirit and outlook. 

Keep your ex at arm's length

You don't want to box your ex out entirely during your divorce. Save for extreme circumstances like an abusive relationship, keeping a narrow window of communication open is often the best idea. This is doubly true if you have children. Children experience the pain of divorce, too, and establishing a visitation routine will ease the transition into their new, two-home lives.

Think with your head, not your heart

This is an extremely emotional time, and it's easy to let your feelings get the better of you. If your ex has fired the first shot across the bow, it's a good idea to speak with an attorney. Protecting yourself at this time is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.

Confide in loved ones, not social media

Speaking of not letting your emotions get the better of you, keep your feelings off Facebook.
