Domestic Relations Financial Affidavit (DRFA) | Lawyers in Alpharetta, GA

One of the most important documents in any divorce is the financial affidavit. The official name is the domestic relations financial affidavit (DRFA), and it must be submitted to the opposing party and to the court before you appear for a temporary hearing or status conference.

Under Georgia law, in domestic relations cases, the parties must provide a full disclosure of their financial situation, including assets and estimated living expenses. The DRFA includes:

  • An itemized listing of assets (home, cars, boats, jewelry, artwork, etc.)
  • The estimated cost of living for both parties (mortgage, food, transportation, health care, educational expenses for the children, entertainment, clothing, etc.)

For many folks, this is the first time they’ve ever actually sat down and put pen to paper to make a budget and determine their cost of living. It can be an eye-opening experience, to say the least, particularly if one party has been handling all the finances and the other party has no idea what it costs to maintain their standard of living.

Please call Hecht Family Law at (470) 291-5342. Attorney Ed Hecht has done many DRFAs. They may seem scary, but they are not, when you have a skilled attorney on your side. We can take you through the drafting of this step by step, so tasks are broken down into manageable pieces.

Whatever your family law legal issue is, Hecht Family Law will help you get through it.
